Holland American Cruise Line

(504) 483-0607 or (504) 482-7617

This company has eight ships: Rotterdam, Statendam, Ryndam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Maasdam, Westerdam, Noordam and Veendam; tonnage ranging from 33,930 to 55,451 tons. They are classified as Large to Superliner ships.

They carry 1,114 to 1,494 passengers with the average age being in the 50's; however some of the ships do cater to families/children. The passengers tend to be mature people who are seeking exceptional quality and service. Many are well traveled retirees from affluent backgrounds while others are younger first-time cruisers with modest incomes. Basically, they are socialable, well-mannered, interested in learning about other cultures and appreciate a diversity of activities.

The goal of the company is to combine the classic elegance of the older oceanliners with the state-of-the-art technology as seen on most of the modern superliners. In 1989, Bolland, and one of it's subsidiaries Winstar, was purchased by Carnival Cruise Corporation. Although there is a sharp contrast in styles, the transition has been a successful one for all parties.
